After a long and productive career, retirement has been a dramatic change of pace. While some of the self-imposed changes – like moving to Austin to be closer to family – have been wonderful, it has been a challenge to decide how to structure my time into meaningful activities. Thanks to Amanda’s approach to yoga as the practice of a holistic lifestyle that incorporates mind, attitudes and body, I have found stimulation and structure that have helped me more peacefully adjust to my new reality. As a yoga guide, Amanda gently empowers students to find the space within themselves to continuously grow and thrive. I have learned that practicing yoga goes beyond physical exercise and actualizes the importance of self-awareness, balance, and congruence. It is Amanda’s honest and compassionate approach that makes her such a good teacher, and I feel fortunate to have found the nurturing power of yoga through her.
“GENTLE YET SPECIFIC”
I’ve taken many group classes with Amanda. Since the very first one I’ve always said that she is the perfect type of yoga instructor for me. When she speaks, it’s like my body hears her even better than my mind does. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but her way of describing what is happening in my body and how it should move within a pose is just perfect. Taking a class with her is like giving your bones, muscles, and organs a warm fuzzy hug. Her guidance is gentle yet very specific, and the sequence of poses always are well thought out yet effortless. I feel that with each session I have improved on something. This is directly related to her highly developed knowledge base and the individual pointers she takes the time to give. It is clear that she was meant to be a yoga instructor and I am so grateful to have had her to help guide my practice

Yoga has had many benefits for me and I know I am only scratching the surface. At age 65, the only sport I play is golf so that is where I see the biggest difference. The benefits of yoga so far have been in the areas of flexibility, range of motion, core strength and balance. Even though I am just a beginning student these improvements allowed me to achieve my best golf score in the last 20 years – yoga is like a fountain of youth!

A few years ago I decided to get back to yoga, for my body and mind. I also had been doing Pilates, strength training, swimming, hiking and walking. I started with Amanda in a small group, once a week. It was the best Yoga class decision I have made. Amanda focuses on each one of us individually. In her class I feel challenged but not pushed. I find her teaching exactly what I want and need. Her personal attention to every one and care makes you feel you are the only student there. I’ve been practicing yoga with Amanda ever since she started giving yoga lessons here in Austin. I enjoy her classes very much and always look forward to attending. Her yoga classes have helped me with stretching, breathing,meditating, and learning yoga practices. This summer while on vacation in Quebec. Canada, visiting Montmorency Falls, I used my breathing exercises while going up 200 steps. It helped me to not get tired and be out of breath. It was amazing!!!
Amanda is a wonderful and very knowledgeable yoga instructor. She explains in detail and pays very close attention to your moves. She listens very well to your concerns and modifies certain yoga positions based on your needs and ability. She’s always watching out for me! I love her classes. I couldn’t imagine doing yoga without her.
